Yaka  meaning "unfruitful month" is a powerful piece of contemporary African art rooted in GaDangme history.

Once considered a time of hardship and misfortune, Yaka was the 13th month in the original GaDangme calendar, which followed a 28-day, 13-month lunar cycle. Falling between Afuabe (December) and Aharabata (January),
Yaka was eventually removed when the calendar was adapted to the 12-month system we use today.

This artwork reflects resilience, forgotten traditions, and the strength of ancestral wisdom. Ideal for display in reflective spaces such as home offices, study rooms, or cultural centres, Yaka invites viewers to explore the depth of GaDangme heritage and the layers of African timekeeping traditions.
