Yaka "unfruitful month"
Yaka was considered a useless, hopeless, or unfruitful month by GaDangme ancestors as nothing seemed to go right for them this month.
In the original GaDangme calendar, there were 13 months. Each month consisted of 28 days and the first month of the year was Gbo (September).
Yaka falls between Afuabe (December) and Aharabata (January) and was the month that was removed from the calendar when switching to the 12-month system, as we know it today.
