About Okaikoi

Okaikoi (pronounced O-ka-kway) is a contemporary art brand on a mission: to preserve the Ga language of Ghana through design. Created by London-based graphic artist Kukueley, each piece transforms Ga words and Ga Samai symbols into bold contemporary artwork — keeping a language at risk of disappearing alive, visible and celebrated.

The Mission

The Ga language is the mother tongue of the Ga people, who originate from the GaDangme group and reside in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. As Ghana’s population continues to grow both within Africa and internationally, the Ga language faces extinction as elders pass on and future generations become global citizens.

Okaikoi was birthed from a desire to create a lasting legacy of the Ga language and the expressions of the Ga Samai symbols continuing the preservation of culture through contemporary design and providing African representation through artwork that is both meaningful and beautiful.

Okaikoi.....The colourful language.

The Artist

Kukueley is a London-based graphic artist specialising in contemporary African art inspired by the Ga language, infused with influences from the Western world. Sharing a mixed Ghanaian and Jamaican family heritage and raised in London, her love of African culture blossomed after multiple trips to Accra, Ghana where she became totally immersed in the vibrancy of the city.

Every piece begins with a Ga word or Samai symbol and its meaning, moving from hand sketch to finished digital artwork.

Kukueley is available for private and commercial commissions.
